take a deep breath and repeat after me:

  • i am not a letter grade
  • i am not a gpa
  • i am not a statistic
  • i am not just a student
  • i am good at something
  • i am more than what an institution tells me i am
  • i am legend
  • i am iron man
  • i am the monster parents tell their children about at night
  • i am the doctor
  • i am a high functioning sociopath
  • do your research
  • i am an angel of the lord

"and that is why pink ribbons are for boobies." -hank green

Things I did not know until now. DAMNIT HITLER.

Actually, though it’s true that today’s gay right movement derives the pink triangle symbol from the Nazis that’s about it. Both boys and girls used to be dressed in pink and blue, but with the invention of denim (which soon had most workers dressed in denim overalls and jeans) and the use of blue in many military uniforms during the 20th Century blue came to be associated with boys, while the newer dyes produced brighter pinks that came to be associated with girls, either because global fashion began to take its cues from France (where pink was associated with little girls) or because of the appearance of mass marketing, that saw an opportunity to increase sales by differentiating strongly between boys clothing and girl’s clothing.

Plus blue was considered more feminine because of its associations with the Virgin Mary, whereas pink was a masculine colour because it was a diluted shade of red.

Historically people tended to give less of a damn about colour and more of a damn about just having some decent clothing to wear.

TL;DR: Pink has been a ‘girly’ colour for less than 100 years.

Plus, colours used to mean other things before the 20th Century, things regarding status and your place in society rather than your gender. Red dyes were more expensive than blue, so red was the colour of kings and high nobles, whereas blue was much more common.

So I work at an ice cream store, and this girl walked in today and quietly asked me who the man behind the counter was. I responded that he was my manager.

"Oh, he’s cute. What’s his name?"

"Justin, but fair warning, he plays for the, uh, other team."

"What team?"

And I swear to fucking god four people (including myself) yelled ‘WILDCATS’ so loud she spilled her drink.

And I thought he was gay

Girls are told to be skinny but not too skinny and to wear makeup but not so much that guys can tell and to dress in revealing clothes but not too revealing or else you’re a slut and a hundred other contradictory standards so I think guys can deal with being made fun of for wearing fedoras
